TRADE TARGETS FOR THE PHOENIX SUNS

The Phoenix Suns weaknesses were exposed this past postseason losing in one of the most embarrassing fashions in recent history. Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks drew up an amazing defensive scheme that highlighted and exposed the Suns lack of a shot creating threat outside of Devin Booker. The Suns really need a player with the ability to put the ball on the floor and make decisions for himself and others at an above average level. With Chris Paul being 37, their championship window is only getting smaller. As far as wiggle room to make a trade the Suns have majority of their picks, albeit not that valuable. Along with contracts such as Laundry Shamet's $9.5 million dollars and Dario Saric's $9.24 million dollars.

1. KELLY OUBRE JR.

A return to Phoenix for Kelly Oubre Jr. would be beneficial for as he can give Phoenix a guy who can be a streaky shooter but a perfect sixth man for them. Oubre has enough size to play either wing position and has some versatility on the defensive end to be a capable plus defender. Oubre shot almost 35% from three this past season on seven attempts per game. His shot selection can be questionable at times, which would most likely be cut down in Monty Williams' system. Oubre shot 35% on catch and shoot threes this past season which will most likely be increased playing with a playmaker such as Chris Paul. Oubre can be a major upgrade to their bench with shooting stats of 41% off the dribble, 35% on catch and shoot, 35% from the corner, and 34% above the break from 3.

2. ERIC GORDON

Eric Gordon would be the perfect sixth man for the Suns and is a guy that Phoenix is probably looking to acquire. Reuniting with Chris Paul as well, the chemistry from the jump would be there but Gordon screams a Suns type player. Gordon is an elite shooter and a guy who can put the ball on the floor as well. Despite being just 6'4, Gordon is still a solid defender at age 33. Gordon shoots 41% from three on five attempts per game, shooting almost 43% off catch and shoots, 48% from the corner, 41% above the break, and 37.4% on pull ups. 72% of Gordon's threes this past season were assisted, which fits perfectly into Monty Williams' system. The only question concerning Gordon outside of health and age, is his $19M dollar contract which increases to $20M the next season.

3. JORDAN CLARKSON

Jordan Clarkson could be the best shot creator on the trade market now that Kevin Durant is officially off the board. JC is currently on a bargain of a deal making only $13.3M dollars and is under contract for the next two seasons before being an unrestricted free agent in 2024. Clarkson in that sixth man role comes off the bench and provides elite level shot making and shot creating. The past season Clarkson took a big dip in shooting percentages shooting only 32% from three on almost eight attempts per game. I wouldn’t pay the closest attention to that percentage with Clarkson's free reigns  in Quinn Snyder's offense to take whatever shot he wants with Donovan Mitchell on the bench. Clarkson would be a guy opposing defenses hunt especially in the postseason, but with the right system that could be kept at bay. JC this past season shot 39% off the dribble, 33% on pull-ups, 34% from the corner, and 32% above the break.

4. TERRENCE ROSS

Terrence Ross has been in trade rumors for what seems like forever now but the Suns would be a perfect team for him. Ross only makes about $11.5M dollars this upcoming season and will be only 31 years old. Ross was not the best three point shooter--making only about 29% from three on four attempts last season-- but he can be as well as a good slashing shot creator. Just two seasons ago prior to the Magic blowing it up, Ross shot 35% from three on seven attempts per game and the season prior to that he shot 38% on seven per game. With T Ross on the Phoenix Suns he would be back on a competent team that is playing for something, and especially playing with guys like Chris Paul and Devin Booker open looks would be there for him.

5. ALEC BURKS

Alec Burks is another credible named to be mentioned that could possibly be traded again this offseason, after being traded on draft night to the Detroit Pistons. Burks only makes $10M this upcoming seasons and is under contract the next two seasons. Burks could provide for the Suns a guy that can put the bal on the floor and be a great shot creator and shooter. At 6'6 he could play either wing position as well. His shooting splits are solid shooting almost 41% from three on almost five per game, 42% on catch and shoot, 39% on pull-ups, 42% on corners, and 40% above the break. 75% of his threes as well were assisted but only 37% of his midranges were.
